Order a Pharmacogenetic (PG) Test

Pharmacogenetic testing may improve patient safety.

The Genetic Pharmacology Service at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center accepts pharmacogenetic test specimens Monday through Sunday. Results are available within two business days.

Pharmacogenetic Test Ordering Procedure

From Outside Cincinnati Children's

  1. Download and print a requisition (available in portable document format - .pdf):

    Download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. You must have Adobe Acrobat" Reader installed on your computer to read a file in portable document format (.pdf). You can download Adobe Acrobat" Reader at Adobe's Web site by selecting the version appropriate for your type of computer.

  2. Encourage your patient / patient's parent to read the handout on pages 2 and 3 of the requisition. The decision to have a pharmacogenetic test is voluntary.
  3. Place ³ 2 mL blood in a purple top EDTA tube.
  4. Make sure the specimen is labeled and the requisition accompanies the specimen. The specimen may be kept at room temperature or refrigerated. DO NOT FREEZE. Do NOT place on ice.
  5. Ship by overnight carrier.
  6. Call 513-636-4474 to nofify the Genetic Pharmacology Service that the sample has been sent.
