Since the inception of these programs, faculty in the Division of Pediatric Surgery have played a major role.
Frederick C. Ryckman, MD, Maria H. Alonso, MD, and Gregory M. Tiao, MD are currently the lead participating pediatric surgeons. These programs offer comprehensive family-centered care, integrating medical and surgical management of a wide spectrum of diseases affecting the kidneys, liver and small bowel.
Faculty in this multidisciplinary program have performed close to 300 transplants (cadaver or living donor) since its inception.
The Pediatric Liver Care Center brings together all aspects of liver care, offering new and innovative treatments and intensive research. It is one of only several centers that perform transplants on children under 10 pounds, and more than half of the patients who have received transplants are younger than 3 years of age.
Since the inception of the liver transplantation program, faculty have performed more than 300 transplants. The current one-year patient survival rate is greater than 90 percent. Transplant procedures include:
