The Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is committed to its role as a pioneer in pediatric heart medicine though weekly and monthly conferences designed for educating physicians, fellows and nurses on the latest medical developments, as well as ongoing conferences that focus on quality improvement and team-based patient management.
Members of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery function as key faculty of the Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care fellowship training programs at Cincinnati Children's. Close interaction with these fellows occurs on a daily basis, primarily in our cardiac intensive care unit, in addition to a number of weekly teaching conferences in which the faculty participates.
The Heart Institute strives to provide exceptional teaching and mentoring and personal guidance to allow each fellow to become a skilled pediatric cardiologist, a scholarly thinker, a critical investigator and a valuable member of the pediatric cardiology community.
Conference to Ensure Best-of-Class Care
A monthly Heart Institute quality improvement conference is attended by the entire clinical team – physicians, nurses, trainees and other caregivers – to work in a team-oriented fashion and to discuss the previous month's outcomes. Issues discussed involve activities in the ward, the cardiac intensive care unit and the cath lab, and events and volume of the previous month.
A weekly Surgery Conference involves cardiologists, surgeons, fellows and nurses in organizing a comprehensive plan for children who need heart surgery – an effort designed to ensure best-of-class care.
A weekly Cardiac Cath and Intervention conference enables cardiologists, fellows and nurses to review recent complex cases and to thoroughly discuss each week’s cases to guarantee the highest level of catheter-based care for children with cardiovascular disease.
