Putting Patients and Families First

Patients and Families Video

You can learn a lot more about the Heart Institute by watching this overview video, featuring WCPO's 9 On Your Kid's Side reporter Michael Flannery.

At the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, we strive to partner with families to provide the best and safest patient care. Our family resources and services are designed to ease the stress of hospital stays, clearly explain procedures, and provide comfort and hope in the face of a life-altering diagnosis.

Family resources range from our Guest Services – an information and referral service – to the Heart Encyclopedia developed by the Heart Institute that contains extensive information about pediatric heart conditions, symptoms, treatments and procedures. The Ronald McDonald House is also available for family-oriented stays.

Support Groups Related to Pediatric Heart Conditions

Underscoring our commitment to family-centered care is a number of support groups tailored specifically for families of children with heart disease.

Hopeful Hearts for Children is an informal support group made up of families affected by congenital heart disease. The mission of Hopeful Hearts is to help parents feel less alone in coping with their child's illness, and to offer encouragement and support, especially during stressful periods. Our annual Heart Institute Family Retreat Weekend is a weekend full of fun and information, specifically designed for families of children affected by heart disease. Camp Joyful Hearts is a residential summer camp for kids and teens with heart disease that offers traditional camping activities such as archery, swimming, fishing and much more.
