Day of Surgery

On the day of surgery with the Heart Institute, please report to the Same Day Surgery Department on the third floor of Location B at the previously arranged time. It is vital that you arrive on time; otherwise surgery may need to be rescheduled.

It is important to notify us immediately if your child gets a runny nose, cough, chest congestion, wheezing, fever, rash, diarrhea, vomiting or if your child has been exposed to chicken pox or any other contagious disease before the preoperative evaluation. If your child becomes ill, surgery may need to be postponed. Also, your child should not take aspirin for seven days prior to surgery.

Please be aware that our surgery schedule is very full. Occasionally – as the premiere cardiac center in the Midwest – we encounter emergency situations such as critically ill newborns or transplants that may require rescheduling your child's surgery. We will only reschedule surgery if your child's physician and surgeon feel it would be medically safe for your child. Please understand should the situation arise. We appreciate your cooperation and patience.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call our office at 513-636-4770. We will be happy to assist you.
