Fetal Tele-Echocardiography Program

The Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center offers a remote fetal tele-echocardiography program, which enables a hospital or clinic to transmit live echocardiographic images to an attending cardiologist from external facilities utilizing high-speed phone lines or the Internet.

The program allows remote hospitals and clinics to:

  • Defer patient transfer for those patients not in need of tertiary care
  • Allow the Heart Institute team to more effectively assess patient care options
  • Provide 24/7 access to internationally recognized consultative expertise

Faster Access to World-Class Care

Patients benefiting from this service are pregnant women carrying fetuses at risk for or with cardiovascular abnormalities. The program provides much greater convenience and faster, easier access to highly specialized fetal echocardiography services.

The Fetal Tele-Echocardiography program provides immediate, actionable information that improves outcomes. The Fetal Heart Program cardiologists at the Heart Institute have more than 40 years of combined experience and perform more than 1,000 fetal cardiac evaluations annually.
