Heart Transplant
The Heart Transplant Program, part of the interdisciplinary Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, was officially established in 1986.
Our team of cardiothoracic surgeons and cardiologists have expertise in the treatment of complex heart disease and heart transplantation. Children and young adults with uncorrectable congenital heart disease and children with cardiomyopathy are potential candidates for transplantation.
UNOS Approved
Our heart transplant program is United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) approved and a member of the Ohio Solid Organ Transplantation Consortium. In addition, the transplant team members are active participants in the Pediatric Heart Transplant Study and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.
Areas of Heart Transplant Program Emphasis
- Providing children with untreatable heart disease a chance to be active members of their families and communities, and the chance to grow emotionally and physically with as little limitation as possible
- Family-centered care provided by a multidisciplinary care team
- Outcomes-focused clinical care and research with the goal of an improved quality of life for our patients
- Quality initiatives, such as prevention and early detection of hyperlipidemia (high fat content in blood), and early detection and prevention of kidney insufficiency due to the effects of immunosuppression medications
The experience of the clinical team and our commitment to quality long-term outcomes is the foundation of the Cincinnati Children's Heart Transplant Program.
