Who to Refer for Cancer Risk Assessment?

The Hereditary Cancer Program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides some guidelines on who to refer for a cancer risk assessment. These are adapted from the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines.
Colon Cancer
- Man or woman with colorectal cancer diagnosed under age 50 years
- Clustering in family of colorectal cancer
- Colorectal
- Endometrial
- Ovarian
- Duodenal / small bowel
- Stomach
- Sebaceous adenomas / carcinomas
- Multiple colorectal carcinomas or more than 10 adenomas in same individual
- Family with known hereditary syndrome associated with cancer with or without mutation
Breast Cancer
- Woman with breast cancer diagnosed under age 50 years
- A woman with two primary breast cancers (bilateral disease or 2 ipsilateral primary tumors)
- A woman with breast and ovarian cancer
- A woman with a family member with two primary breast cancers or with breast and ovarian cancer
- Clustering in family of breast cancer
- Male breast cancer
- Thyroid cancer
- Sarcoma
- Adrenocortical cancer
- Uterine cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
- Brain tumors
- Leukemia / lymphoma
- Ashkenazi Jewish individual with breast cancer at any age
- Any woman with ovarian cancer
- Woman with family history of one or more ovarian cancers on same side of family
