Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology

How You Can Help

The Division of Experimental Hematology at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Research Foundation is dedicated to improving the health of children with diseases of the blood including leukemia, genetic deficiencies, cancer and immunological diseases.

Basic science research forms the foundation upon which new therapies are built. Critical to such research is the understanding of the development and behavior of normal blood and immune cells, as well as the testing of new procedures or manipulations of these cells.

The normal donor program is therefore vital to the success of our research mission. By providing an ample supply of fresh blood precursor cells from either the bone marrow or the blood, the normal donor program fuels research in a vast array of laboratories. The program makes possible a wide range of investigations, from the study of normal blood cell development to testing new therapies in the laboratory, such as the genetic correction of blood cell diseases. All uses of donor cells are approved by our Institutional Review Board. Thus, normal donors are an important part of our vision to be a leader of improving children's health for hematologic, immunologic, and oncologic diseases.
