By: Karen Sparling
Congratulations to Dr. Mary Allen Staat for being nominated by an International Adoption Center family for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center "Freedom Hero" award. A Freedom Hero is an individual or group who takes action to protect or extend freedom. The action is often as simple as speaking up,working as a catalyst for change or encouraging others to learn, grow and contribute. Freedom Heroes come from all walks of life and may affect any form of freedom including race, gender, religion, speech, press, educational, social, or economic issues. The Freedom Center honors the individual whose innovation, involvement and intervention re-directs fate.
In the past seven years, Dr. Staat has assisted more than 2,000 adoptive families from 43 states and six countries with their adoptions of children born in 41 different countries. There will be a permanent plaque displayed at the Freedom Center in Dr. Staat's honor.
