Clinical Services
Faculty and staff of the Lead Clinic at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center are available to parents and primary care providers as a resource for lead poisoning prevention and treatment information and clinical care. Services can be provided on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Most services are provided on an outpatient basis. Services for Cincinnati residents can be provided in conjunction with the Lead Case Manager from the Cincinnati Health Department. The Clinic has contacts with and works closely with other local health departments for residents from neighboring areas.
Outpatient clinical services in the Lead Clinic include:
- General assessment of lead exposure sources
- General advice on minimization and avoidance of lead hazards
- Assistance interpreting lead hazard remediation orders
- Evaluation of clinical symptoms
- Case management and treatment of lead poisoning or elevated lead levels
- Referrals for behavioral and neurodevelopmental testing
Inpatient services are primarily for emergent chelation therapy. An individualized plan of care based on the patient medical history is carried out by our team of physicians.
The Lead Clinic is open Wednesdays from 1 pm to 5 pm. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling us at 513-636-8556 (Karen Hartjes, Nurse Coordinator for the Lead Clinic). The clinic operates within the Multipractice Center in Cincinnati Children's Main Campus, Location C2 (Second Floor).
