Graft Survival at 90 Days
The Pediatric Liver Care Center team at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center closely monitors every patient following a liver transplant. Several factors, however, can impact whether or not a transplanted liver graft / organ survives, such as:
- Age of the child at the time of the the transplant
- How sick the child was at the time of transplant (as indicated by PELD / MELD score)
- Whether or not the patient had previously been transplanted
- The primary disease / reason for the liver transplant
- Race of the transplant recipient
From January 2002 to December 2006, 87% of liver grafts / organs lived 90 days after being transplanted into a child at Cincinnati Children's. Among the past 25 liver transplants, 84% have survived 30 after being transplanted.

Patients are considered high-risk for a liver transplant if they are:
- Less than age 2 at the time of transplant
- UNOS Status 1 at the time of transplant
- Retransplant candidate
- Multi-organ transplant
