Researching Liver Disease

Liver disease research.

Integrating research with clinical efforts is a core value at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. The comprehensive nature of the Pediatric Liver Care Center's research efforts sets Cincinnati Children's apart from other institutions.

The Pediatric Liver Care Center has active programs in all areas of liver disease research in the Department of Surgery and the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition that help us lead the way in health care delivery to liver disease patients: basic science research, clinical research, translational research and outcomes research.

The Pediatric Liver Care Center's commitment to cutting-edge research means that our patients have access to the most recent advancements in treatment.

  • Active funded clinical and basic science research is conducted to identify alternative treatments for the prevention and early intervention of liver disease and preservation of graft function.

  • Advances in clinical and basic research are used to decrease the demand for transplantation, preserve transplanted organs and increase supply through alternative surgical techniques.

  • The Pediatric Liver Care Center goes beyond typical outcomes data reporting to measure other critical factors, such as quality of life and costing data -- information that is used to optimize the transplantation program.
