What to Pack When Coming for a Liver Transplant
Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center offers suggestions on what to bring with you.
For Parents
- Comfortable clothing and shoes (you will have access to a washer and dryer)
- An umbrella
- Prescription medicines
- Phone numbers and addresses of family, friends, employer, neighbors and your child's medical care providers in your hometown
- A good book or small craft project
- Laptop computer, if desired, for work or recreation during down times
- Cards to send siblings
- Disposable or inexpensive camera and film
- Favorite audio tapes, small radio or videotapes of home (your room will have a TV, VCR and a tape recorder)
For Children
- Two sets of comfortable clothing, such as extra large T-shirts, pull-on pants, socks, underwear, shoes, slippers, and nightshirts or pajamas
- Favorite blanket, stuffed animal or toy (Child Life can provide other toys, crafts, books, games, etc.)
- Favorite audio and videotapes (Child Life has a lending library)
- Family photos (be sure to include photos of your child's pets)
- Addresses of friends and the name, address and phone number of your child's school
- Hand-held electronic games
Special Considerations
- Cellular phones must be turned off at all times while in any building on our campus.
- Because of potential latex allergies, latex balloons are not allowed in patient rooms; you may bring Mylar balloons.
- Because of potential infection problems, floral arrangements are not allowed in patient rooms during the intensive care and stepdown phases of care.
