Bio

Dr. Brunner is a pediatric rheumatologist with a special clinical and research interest in pediatric lupus. Her research is focused on biomarker discovery and the testing of new medications for lupus. She is also involved in trial design and provides statistical support at CCHMC. As head of the Lupus Center, she is involved in the conduction of the Lupus Clinic and the organization of Lupus Support Groups. She also pioneers the development of outcome measures and improving the quality of clinical of children with lupus and other rheumatic diseases.

"Meaningful Outcomes of Pediatric Lupus Clinical Trials"  U01-AR51868, September 30, 2004 - September 29, 2008, Prinicpal Investigator. The major goal of the project is to develop surrogate markers for pediatric SLE clinical trials in collaboration various pediatric rheumatology research groups.

"Towards Biomarkers for Lupus Renal Disease", Alliance for Lupus Research, January 1, 2006 - March 30, 2008, Principal Investigator. The major goal of the project is to identify and validate biomarkers for SLE using proteomics and to establish the predictive properties of neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin (NGAL) to serve as renal biomarker of SLE.

"Biomarkers for Patient-tailored Therapies in Pediatric Lupus Nephritis using Mycophenolic Acid" CCHMC Translational Research Initiative, July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008, Principal Investigator. The major goal of the project is to pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and pharmacogenetic markers of MMF response in SLE.

"Clinical Trials Outcomes for Pediatric Lupus Trials" U01 AR06-006, October 1, 2007 - September 30, 2010, Principal Investigator. The major goal of this project is develop criteria of remission and flare as well as a National CARRA Lupus Registry.

"Early Biomarkers for Lupus Nephritis" P035278 Department of Defense, July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2010. The major goal of the project is to identify and validate biomarkers for SLE using proteomics

"Improving Adherence To Medical Interventions In Childhood-Onset Lupus." CCHMC Health-Services Matrix, January 1, 2008 - December 30, 2010, Principal Investigator. The major goal of the project is to use interventions at the level of the health delivery system for improving visit and medication adherence in children, adolescent and young adults with SLE.
