Prenatal Testing
The Molecular Genetics Laboratory at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides prenatal diagnosis for selected inherited immune deficiencies, familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis secondary to PRF1, Munc13-4 or STX11 mutations, selected lysosomal storage diseases and fragile-X syndrome.
All cases for which prenatal diagnosis is requested must be discussed with our genetic counselor prior to sample submission.

CVS
Please send 20 mg chorionic villi in culture media at room temperature via overnight courier. Sample will be cultured in-house prior to analysis.
Alternately, 1 or 2 T-25 flasks grown to confluence is acceptable. Please retain at least one flask as a back up culture until analysis is completed.
Please include 3cc peripheral blood from the mother in an EDTA (purple top) tube for STR identity analysis.

Amniocentesis

Shipping Instructions
Please label and date all samples and enclose appropriate test requisition with sample(s). All information must be completed before sample can be processed. Place sample in Styrofoam mailer and ship at room temperature by overnight courier to arrive Monday through Friday.

Results
Please expect results in four weeks from cultured cells. Results will be faxed to providers listed on requisition.

Costs
There is a charge of $696.00 US for CV culture, $522.00 US for amniotic fluid culture and a $307.00 US for STR identity analysis in addition to the charges for specific genetic testing. All other tests (chromosome analysis, AFP, etc.) are available at additional charges. We will bill institutions or private insurance or patients may elect to prepay at the time of sample submission. Please include a letter of preapproval for Medicaid billing from states other than Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.
