Making a Referral

The Musculoskeletal Tumor Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center accepts referrals for benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors. We accept physician referrals and self referrals.

Convenient Referral Process

An experienced oncology nurse facilitates all referrals. The center coordinator facilitates gathering medical history, information and imaging studies. The coordinator also works directly with the family to schedule the evaluations, handle all precertification and assist in making travel arrangements if needed.

  • The patient's medical condition is discussed at the weekly multidisciplinary tumor board
  • A biopsy is scheduled within 48 hours of presentation
  • A multidisciplinary evaluation is done in the clinic
  • A detailed assessment is provided, including recommendations for disease management and treatment
  • Treatment is usually started within one week
  • Management of the condition occurs through the center
  • Patients receive life-long care, and visit the center to maintain up-to-date care
  • Reports are provided to the referring physician every time a patient is seen to facilitate coordinated care
