Radiology tests with pediatric specialists
All radiology tests are performed by registered technologists who complete the tests while you wait. These tests are reviewed by pediatric radiologists from Cincinnati Children's who then forward the results to your doctor. Some of the most common tests ordered include:
- Conventional X-ray: chest, spine and orthopaedic imaging
- Ultrasound: kidney, abdomen and pelvis
- Fluoroscopy: gastrointestinal and urological
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): same or next day scheduling available
MRI: State-of-the-art Pediatric Services
Smaller body parts require differences in the way pictures are obtained. Different diseases require special imaging considerations. And while MRI scanners are similar in size, MRI exams should be performed differently for children. If these adjustments are not made, a pediatric disease might not be identified.
The scanners at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center locations have special equipment just for children. They are less intimidating, customized for kids and ideal for imaging children. We also have special goggles so children can watch their favorite DVD or video during their exam, or they can listen to a CD.
MRI Appointments
The MRI units at Cincinnati Children's Mason Campus and Cincinnati Children's Kenwood perform non-sedation procedures. The MRI units at the main campus perform clinical imaging, including procedures that require sedation.

Notification of MRI Results
A pediatric radiologist will view and interpret the MRI scan. Your physician will have results within 24 hours.
