Nephrology / Hypertension

Overview

The Nephrology and Hypertension Division at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for the entire range of disorders of the kidney and urinary tract.

The division is particularly well-known for its expertise in the evaluation and treatment of children with acute and chronic glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome. Inpatient and outpatient consultation is also available for patients with complex electrolyte, acid base, and calcium and phosphorus disorders.

Multidisciplinary Approach

The division works closely with the Urologic Surgery Division and Pediatric Surgery, providing a multidisciplinary approach to the care of children with congenital anomalies of the kidneys and the urinary tract.

Specialized Procedures

Extensive facilities are available for the care of acute and chronic renal failure. Hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and training and support of home dialysis are all provided.

The division also provides highly specialized procedures such as hemoperfusion, hemofiltration, and hemodiafiltration in critically ill children.

In cooperation with surgical subspecialists, the division coordinates an active Kidney Transplant Program and is deeply committed to a comprehensive post-transplant patient-care program.
