How to Give Back
BRAIN relies upon the voluntary support and dedication of its members. There's nothing particularly special about its leaders except their extraordinary dedication to contributing to a system that served them well. We'd like you to become one of them.
A new BRAIN initiative NEEDS YOUR HELP!Now that we have two mock exams, perhaps the most pressing need is how to handle our aging and disorganized written exam notes.
The Problem: Right now any significant update to the BRAIN written exam notes would require a single individual to either (a) be an expert on all things or (b) try to make sense out of different people's reorganized versions of our notes. BRAIN folks have kindly e-mailed Dean Beebe (the BRAIN web site coordinator) their study notes, but it is nearly impossible to identify what's new, what's updated, and what's redundant with our already somewhat redundant set of notes.
The Solution: We break the notes down into topical sections, each of which is assigned to one or more section editor(s). Each section’s editor(s) would be in charge of making sure the notes are up to date and accurate, integrating in the contributions of BRAIN members. The process would be overseen by the Written Exam Initiative team.
Benefits: The problem can be solved by sharing the burden and capitalizing on our shared expertise. Moreover, someone with at least reasonably focused knowledge could help sift the bad from the good in a given topic area, resulting in more coherent, accurate and useful notes.
Proposed Sections:
- Adult NP conditions/diagnoses and aging
- Pediatric NP conditions/diagnoses and neurodevelopment
- Behavioral Neurology symptoms and syndromes (e.g., agnosia, apraxia)
- Neuroanatomy for Neuropsychologists
- Clinical Psychology and Psychiatric Conditions
- Neuropsychology Methods (e.g., psychometrics, applied stats, imaging)
How to help: E-mail Laura Janzen (laura.janzen@gmail.com) to indicate your interest. She and the other industrious written exam initiative folks are coordinating the process.
Thanks for helping BRAIN to be a top-notch resource for neuropsychologists seeking ABPP/ABCN certification!
