Leadership Structure and Key Initiatives

BRAIN grew out of a collaborative enterprise amongst professionals. This remains the thrust of the group. However, with the group's ranks swelling and its increasing profile in the neuropsychology community, it was recognized that some leadership structure was needed to maintain its viability. As of the Summer of 2006, the BRAIN group placed individuals in key leadership roles, and developed initiatives for continuing to improve the BRAIN network. The following represents the leadership initiatives and leaders as of June 2008.

Broad Leadership Roles

Official Contact and External Communications Organizers
Facilitate communication with outside individuals and groups, act as spokespersons for the group.

Web Organizer
Updates and maintains the web site.

Membership and List-Serve Organizers
Serve as contacts for people interested in joining the group, monitor listserve etiquette, address questions related to "how do I get new members in the group", problem-solve list-serve glitches.

Ad Hoc Advisors
Help to make important decisions regarding the future directions of BRAIN.

Survivors Support Group
Facilitate a separate forum to help people persevere in the ABPP process even if they have failed one portion.

Initiative Leaders

Written exam initiative
This group is responsible for drafting new practice tests, making sure our tests are representative of the real test material, and coordinating revisions and/or updates of the written study materials as needed. As of 6/2008, they launched a new effort to substantively revise and reorganize the study notes. Learn how to help.[DWB4]

Work Sample initiative
The goal of this initiative is to provide a user-friendly list of pointers to help candidates select and prepare their work samples for submisson. Beginning mid-2007, this has included maintaining a database of BRAIN members who have completed the ABPP/CN certification process and who are willing to pre-review candidates' potential work samples.

Oral Exam Preparation Initiative
This initiative is focused on ensuring that the oral exam study materials continue to evolve positively.

Study Group Initiative
This initiative coordinates the efforts of far-flung BRAIN members to join study groups for the written and oral exams.
