Current Notes
Remember! These study materials have helped many people who have successfully completed the ABCN certification process, but there is no guarantee that they will work for you. The notes' authors, web site host, and everyone else involved in the creation and distribution of these study notes make no promises as to the complete accuracy or relevance of the material, and invite you to suggest changes. They were intentionally left in MS Word format to readily allow for updates and revisions. If you want to offer suggestions or revisions (to be reviewed prior to posting on the site), please email dean.beebe@cchmc.org.
The notes were largely abstracted from the prevailing editions of Blumenfeld's Neuroanatomy through Clinical Cases, Kaufman's Neurology for Psychiatrists, Heilman and Valenstein's Clinical Neuropsychology, Lezak and colleagues' Neuropsychological Assessment, and Kolb and Whishaw's Human Neuropsychology. Each text has its strengths and limitations, and other texts may be helpful as well.
The notes were originally written by various BRAIN members who were in the process of their own exam preparations. Consequently, while they do not overlap severely, the notes do sometime overlap and they do not necessarily follow a well-defined organizational plan. One BRAIN member, Dr. Galit Dori, has provided permission to share her work at organizing the notes during her own preparation. Click here to download Dr. Dori's integrated notes (1.24 MB). Otherwise, the topic-by-topic BRAIN notes are provided below.
As of 6/2008, BRAIN launched a new initiative to reorganize and update its study notes. WE NEED YOUR HELP! This is an ideal activity for someone preparing for the written examination, as you will learn while you help. To learn more how to help, click here.
