Multidisciplinary Teams / Approach

The Neurology Division at Cincinnati Children's has established several teams that provide coordinated care from a variety of experts. These multidisciplinary clinics include:

The Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratories (EEG, EEG monitoring unit, MEG, EMG, Evoked Potentials) are fully integrated into each program.

All of our specialty clinics are part of active research programs, which stimulates our physicians to deliver optimal care to the patients and their families. The physicians are supported by certified nurse practitioners, nurses and office staff.

Family-Centered Care

The Neurology Division at Cincinnati Children's is dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate and respectful care to every patient and family. We will include you and your child in all aspects of your child's care, making sure that you are part of the health care team, your questions are answered and you are comfortable with your child's care. You know your child best, and we encourage you to be an active participant by discussing your child's condition and treatment plan with team members.

In addition, on-site facilities such as the Family Resource Center provide personal, comprehensive, up-to-date assistance. The Family Resource Center staff offers the most current information in response to questions related to diagnoses, medical conditions or procedures. If you would like assistance working with your child's school, the Family Resource Center can also help.

High Patient Volume

The Neurology Division team at Cincinnati Children's treats children from all over the world. Annually, over 3,500 new patients visit the neurology clinics at Cincinnati Children's and over 11,000 patients are followed for epilepsy, headache, cerebral palsy, and neurometabolic, neuro-oncologic, neurobehavioral and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Research

Every day our researchers are trying to find new and better ways to improve the care we provide to children with neurological problems. The Neurology Division at Cincinnati Children's is at the forefront of clinical and pre-clinical studies of drug treatments for epilepsy, migraine, Tourette syndrome, tuberous sclerosis, muscular dystrophies and other neurological disorders.

All of our specialty, multidisciplinary clinics are part of active research programs.

Advanced Treatment / Laboratory Services

Children and teens at Cincinnati Children's can be treated with the latest medications, ketogenic diet, VNS stimulation and other surgical procedures.

The Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory is part of the Neurology Division. We offer EEG (main campus, Mason, Fairfield and Anderson Outpatient locations), EMG, Evoked Potentials and continuous video-EEG monitoring services. The Neurophysiology Laboratory performed 3,800 EEGs, 110 EMGs, 28 evoked potentials and 508 video EEGs during the past year. MEG (magnetoencephalography) is available starting January 2006.
