The Division of Nutrition Therapy team at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is comprised of professionals with specialized training in nutrition. Here's what our credentials mean:

CredentialWhat It Means
RDRD stands for Registered Dietitian. A registered dietitian has earned a four-year undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Science in Dietetics, completed a dietetic internship program approved by the American Dietetic Association, and successfully completed the Registration Exam for Dietetics. To maintain RD status a Registered Dietitian must complete a minimum of 75 hours of continuing education every five years.
DTRDTR stands for Dietetic Technician, Registered. A dietetic technician has earned an Associate's Degree, completed a dietetic technician program approved by the American Dietetic Association, and successfully completed the dietetic technician registration exam. To maintain DTR status, the dietetic technician must complete a minimum of 50 hours of continuing education every five years.
CSPCSP stands for Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition. A CSP is a Registered Dietitian who has practiced for three years, completed 4,000 hours of practice within pediatric nutrition and successfully completed the board certification as a specialist in pediatric nutrition.
CNSDCNSD stands for Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian. Nutrition support is the application of nutritional interventions for patients with various diseases that affect processes such as eating, digesting and absorbing nutrients required for health. Physicians, Nurses, Dietitians and Pharmacists may provide services either alone or frequently as a multidisciplinary team to assist the patient. Dietitians are required to successfully pass a national exam every five years to achieve certification.
IBCLCIBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. An IBCLC helps mothers breastfeed their babies, in challenging situations. By gaining the experience and education necessary to pass the International Board Certification Examination, Board Certified specialists in lactation management prove to their patients and colleagues on the health care team that they are competent practitioners -- committed to the health and well-being of breastfeeding mothers and babies in their care. Lactation consulting is an exciting and expanding allied health field.
