The Abrahamson Pediatric Eye Institute (APEI), in conjunction with the Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, is dedicated to researching new and emerging treatments for many different types of eye diseases.

The APEI is involved in a variety of research projects, such as basic science and clinical research in the field of visual development. The Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology also conducts industry-sponsored clinical trials for other eye disorders, such as glaucoma.

Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG)

Constance E. West, MDSarah L. Lopper, OD, Dean J. Bonsall, MD, MS, FACS, and Marie I. Bodack, OD, are currently certified investigators with the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG). PEDIG is a national group of pediatric ophthalmologists who conduct research studies funded by the National Eye Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health. Current studies focus on various aspects of treatments for amblyopia, or "lazy eye," in different age groups of children.
