Pastoral Care

Chaplaincy Strengths

The Pastoral Care Department at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is an ecumenical and interfaith department that provides pastoral care for patients families and staff.

Cincinnati Children's chaplains minister in the belief that the hospitalization of a child represents a spiritual crisis for all who care for that child and part of the work of healing lies in wrestling with the spiritual issues that arise.

Hospitalization and Spiritual Issues

For some this means making use of the religious resources of their faith-prayer, scripture and sacraments. For others it means struggling to feel the presence of God at a time when God can seem to be distant. For others it means simply appreciating the opportunity for companionship and conversation which a chaplain can provide.

Cincinnati Children's chaplaincy staff are trained to minister in this demanding and challenging environment.

Trained in Pediatrics

Skilled pastors, we are familiar with the complex clinical environment of Cincinnati Children's and are also knowledgeable about the particular developmental and spiritual issues which are unique to children.

The chaplains serve as part of the pediatric health care team, sharing with other clinicians the task of bringing wholeness and health to patients and families.
