Typical Daily Schedule

Here is the typical daily schedule for the A4N psychiatry inpatient unit at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. (A4N refers to the north unit on the fourth floor of Location A.) Each unit's schedule may vary.

The goals your child identifies are an integral part of treatment.

Goals Group (Adolescent Unit)

Each morning adolescents attend goals group to identify a goal they will work on for the day. The goal must relate to why they are in the hospital. The goal must be something they can complete in one day, and it must be something specific that the child can do themselves.

Each evening adolescents attend goal review group to discuss how they worked on their goal and if it was effective. If they did not complete it, they discuss what they could do differently to help them meet it. The group setting allows patients to benefit not only from the support of staff, but also the support of their peers.

Community Meeting (Children's Unit)

The community meeting group helps establish the tone for the day with children. The schedule and structure for the day is reviewed. Each child is introduced to their assigned staff member. Unit rules are reviewed. Any conflicts between children are discussed, as well as particular challenges demonstrated on the unit for any particular child. Children also establish their behavior and therapeutic goals for the day.
