In recent national research, it is estimated that 1 out of every 5 children have a diagnosable mental, emotional or behavioral disorder and as many as 70 percent of these children do not receive mental health services. The Psychiatric Intake Response Center (PIRC) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is committed to helping families access the appropriate services required in treating mental illness.

The PIRC staff will help tailor a family-centered, personalized approach to help ensure that the patient's mental health treatment is coordinated, efficient and effective.

The PIRC Staff appreciates the potential barriers in accessing mental health services. The PIRC staff will consider the following criteria in determining the best service options for families:

  • Causes for Concern / Risk Factors
  • Service Availability
  • Medical Concerns
  • Past Treatment History
  • Patient Demographics (Age, Location, Transportation Concerns)
  • Insurance, Financial, and Managed Care Requirements
