The Psychiatric Intake Response Center (PIRC) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides professionally licensed staff to complete evaluations in the emergency department, assist with inpatient psychiatric consult service, and triage phone calls that come though Physician Priority Link, community providers and the general public. The PIRC staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to the mental health needs of the community.
- Emergency Evaluations
- Physician Priority Link – a service provided to pediatric and family doctors in the community. Any community physician with questions pertaining to diagnosis, medications, and treatment options for children and adolescents may contact the PIRC for direction and / or consultation with a psychiatrist.
- Psychiatric Consults – Members of the consult team and PIRC staff provide assistance to the medical staff within the medical center to facilitate mental health treatment for patient's admitted to medical services. The consult staff will assess the mental health needs of medical patients and provide treatment options to the medical physician. The consult staff will provide direction for treatment while the child is in the hospital and will make recommendations for continued treatment upon discharge. The consult staff will also assess patients for the need to be admitted to the psychiatric unit upon medical discharge when requested by the medical physician.
