Bio
Karen Montag-Leifling, MSW / LISW, is a member of the multidisciplinary pulmonary team in the Pulmonary Medicine and Clinical Immunology Division and Social Services. She has a BA from Miami University and MSW from the University of Cincinnati.
In her role as a social worker, she has varied responsibilities which include participating as a member of the Child Abuse Team, screening for abuse and or neglect, providing supportive counseling and anticipatory guidance for patients and families, screening for material resources and facilitating acquisition of appropriate resources, and referring to appropriate community-based services.
In working with chronic pulmonary patients, Karen acts as a patient advocate in areas of patient educational needs, and attends school conferences. She helps families manage insurance and billing problems and inquires. She facilitates referrals for lung transplantation, provides support to the patient and family during and through end of life issues, and informs patients and families about the Hospice Program and makes referrals at the families request.
