Bicycle Safety Program

The Bicycle Safety Program at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati is designed to teach children 5 to 9 years of age the importance of bicycle safety through six hands-on lessons. Each lesson prepares students for the following lesson. When children complete all six lessons, they will be prepared for the bicycle rodeo that tests their overall skills.

Teaching bicycle safety in schools and communities can tremendously decrease the number of bicycle related injuries and deaths among children 5 to 9 years of age. Bicycle education teaches new skills and allows children who are following the rules of the road to serve as role models to help educate others about the importance of bicycle safety. Children who do not have bicycle skills or who don't follow the traffic rules are most likely to be injured while riding a bicycle.
