Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
MRI - or Magnetic Resonance Imaging - is a way for doctors to take pictures of the inside of the body. MRI uses magnetism, radio waves and a computer to take these detailed images. At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, we specialize in performing MRI scans specifically tailored to children.
Children are Different
While children will one day become adults, they are not small adults. They have different needs. Diseases and injuries don't affect a child's growing body the same as an adult. That is why, when your children need medical care or are sick, you take them to a pediatrician who specializes in the care of children.
Pediatric radiologists are specially trained experts in understanding children's medical problems. They are skilled in performing and interpreting pediatric imaging tests and diagnosing problems.
Special Equipment for Kids
Smaller body parts require differences in the way pictures are obtained. Different diseases require special imaging considerations. While MRI scanners are similar in size, MRI exams should be performed differently for children. If these adjustments are not made, a pediatric disease might not be identified.
Our scanners have special equipment for children. They are less intimidating, customized for kids and ideal for imaging children. We have special goggles so children can watch their favorite DVD or video during the exam, or they can listen to a CD.
