Philosophy of Care

The Regional Center for Newborn Intensive Care (RCNIC) at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati believes in a philosophy of care that is family-centered.

The Regional Center for Newborn Intensive Care (RCNIC) at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati believes in a philosophy of care that is family-centered. In support of babies and families we hold the beliefs and values listed below.

Our standard of practice recognizes the family as the consistent participant in the care of each baby as they progress through their stay at Cincinnati Children's. We acknowledge the love that families bring for their baby and encourage and support families in participating in the daily care of their baby, recognizing the differences in skill each family member brings to the care of their child. Our clinical team, working with families, shall identify and provide educational support and resources to ensure continual growth and understanding of health and developmental issues related to their baby.

The RCNIC supports the mission of Cincinnati Children's by providing state-of-the-art medical and surgical resources to every baby on our unit. Our commitment to families and their babies is to practice patient care at an optimal level of professionalism, respecting the dignity of each baby, their family and the quality of their lives. We commit to providing for the optimal growth and development of each baby. We encourage and support family involvement throughout the continuum of care and facilitate gaining access to community services through a transition to home plan. We value feedback from families, during and after hospitalization, to help us monitor and improve our mission in the RCNIC.
