The Regional Center for Newborn Intensive Care (RCNIC) at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati takes a collaborative approach to the care they offer patients and families. In addition to the specialties represented on the RCNIC team, other services throughout the hospital are available. These services include professionals from the following areas:

Developmental support services and parent education are provided to support optimal growth and development of premature or medically fragile newborns, infants and toddlers from birth to 3 years of age. Most infants who are hospitalized in the RCNIC will get a referral to Early Intervention. This is a national program and is funded by the state of Ohio. The services can include developmental teacher, occupational therapy, physical therapy or speech therapy.

  • Holistic Health
    Holistic health care services are provided to newborns and family members through use of healing touch and massage on a referral basis.
  • Child Life
    Specialists provide support services to families through sibling support and education materials to facilitate transition to home and community. Child life specialists also provide materials to support a developmentally appropriate environment for the newborn.
