Overview

At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, social workers are an integral part of the team. Social workers help patients and their families cope with the practical and emotional concerns that accompany diagnosis and treatment of many illnesses or disorders. Social workers can also:
- Assist parents and their children with adjusting to illness and hospitalization
- Counsel families confronted with social and financial difficulties
- Intervene in crisis situations
- Provide information and referral on community resources for treatment and support
- Help with grief, loss and bereavement issues
- Assist in discharge planning
Social workers are available on all of the medical floors and are assigned to most of the specialty areas.
Social workers are key members of the Child Abuse Team. They interview children and families when there are concerns about abuse or neglect. Social workers also coordinate follow-up for the children.
