Allison Whisenhunt, MSW/ LISW-S, is a member of the mulitdisciplinary team in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and is an active participatant in the Social Services Division. As a Social Worker, she has varied responsibilities which include advocation for patients & families, screening for abuse and or neglect, providing supportive counseling and anticipatory guidance for patients and families, screening for material resources, and referring to appropriate community-base services.
Allison is the Social Worker for the Asthma Center, helping patients and families adjust and cope with all aspects of asthma care, including addressing barriers to treatment adherence, identifying and managing environmental triggers, working with the education system, connecting to insurance and other financial support resources, and adjusting emotionally to life with chronic illness. Allison strives to work collaboratively with patients & families, and to empower them through education and support.
In working with rare lung disease patients, Allison assist families in planning travel for medical care as needed, educates parents in areas of patient educational needs, helps families manage insurance and billing questions, connects families to appropriate financial and emotional support resources, and works with families to improve the management of a variety of diagnoses in the category of Interstitial Lung Disease.
Allison has several years of experience working with hospice and bereavement, and is the back up Social Worker for Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center's pediatric hospice program Starshine.
