STATline Communication Center

Overview

The STATline Communications Center, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center's emergency communication information system, offers pre-hospital care providers (EMS squads) and referring hospitals and physicians a round-the-clock direct connection to pediatric emergency specialists.

Directed by Cathy Gouldin, MD, the STATline Communication Center receives more than 20,000 referrals annually. It is the lifeline to EMS units, receiving 1,300 calls per year from squads.

Emergency Referrals by Physicians

Physicians can make emergency referrals by calling the STATline Communications Center, 513-636-4964. Specially trained EMS operators relay referrals to an emergency medicine physician. Referral to subspecialists is made subsequent to evaluation of the child in the Emergency Department. If direct referral to a subspecialist is preferred, it should be made by the referring physician.
