Education in Tourette Syndrome
The Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorder Clinic at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is committed to educating patients, families, teachers, and care providers. We provide the latest educational resources and links to families affected by tics, Tourette Syndrome, and associated disorders like ADHD and OCD.
The staff of the Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorder Clinic is involved in education at the local, state, and national level. We give talks at local support group meetings and at State and National Tourette Syndrome Association meetings. Dr. Gilbert, through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and the Tourette Syndrome Association, has given numerous educational talks on diagnosis and treatment of Tourette Syndrome in many cities and towns across the United States. Dr. Gilbert also serves on the Tourette Syndrome Association Medical Advisory Board.
Psychologists and teachers also need to know about Tourette Syndrome. Our staff provides letters to families to assist with individual educational plans and we give talks to training programs in psychology and education.
We also devote substantial effort toward the education of Medical Students, Medical Residents, Practicing Physicians, and current and future scientists. Our staff participates each year in the Cincinnati Children's High School Science Symposium, and we regularly welcome students in high school, college, and medical school to join us in clinical and research aspects of Tourette Syndrome. Our staff strongly believes in educating medical students (future doctors) and resident doctors. Therefore we often have trainees in our clinic to observe and participate. We have also established one of the only pediatric neurology fellowships for the study Tourette Syndrome and pediatric Movement Disorders in the country.
