Why Choose Us?
The Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorder Clinic at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is one of the largest of its kind in North America. Our clinic evaluates and treats many locally, regionally, and nationally referred Children and Adults with Tics and Tourette Syndrome. We provide diagnostic consultations, making sure the correct diagnosis has been made, and we treat tics and associated symptoms. We are available to manage symptoms through our clinic or in consultation with local primary or specialty physicians. We also provide second opinions.
In addition to providing expert medical care for children and adults with Tics and Tourette Syndrome, the staff in the clinic work closely with psychologists and psychiatrists at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and in the community for diagnosis and treatment of commonly co-occurring symptoms or problems, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and other psychiatric and behavioral conditions. Collaboration with psychiatry is particularly important when OCD is severe, when bipolar or schizophrenia symptoms are present, when there is any substance abuse, or when there are significant conduct problems.
The Cincinnati Children's Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorder Clinic also works closely with Support and Advocacy Groups. The director of the clinic, Dr. Gilbert, serves on the Medical Advisory Board for the Tourette Syndrome Association - USA and consults for the Ohio state TSA chapter.
