Clinical Care

Clinical Care Mission Statement

"To coordinate, facilitate and continually improve comprehensive family centered care, within the era of managed care and cost containment, for injured children and families through system refinement, education, research, quality assurance and clinical expertise."

Trauma Resuscitation Team

The trauma resuscitation team responds to the Emergency Department when a severely injured child arrives. This team consists of members providing direct patient care and an outer team which provides support services.

For a trauma resuscitation to be efficient, every member of the trauma resuscitation team must understand their specific role and function. The trauma resuscitation team trains monthly using high-fidelity human patient simulators in order to perfect communication and patient care.

Trauma Resuscitation Core Nurses

The trauma resuscitation core nurses are from the Emergency Department and the Specialty Resource Unit. They excel in their knowledge and skill in caring for traumatically-injured children and their families, providing expert care during the initial trauma resuscitation and during the patient's hospitalization.

Each nurse has participated in advanced trauma training to provide a higher level of nursing care to injured children. In addition to unit-based nursing education requirements, the trauma core nurses take part in other educational opportunities, including:

  • Human patient simulator training
  • Trauma Journal Club
  • Case review
  • Web-based education
  • Trauma lectures

Our trauma nurses utilize advanced critical thinking to prioritize care needs and to anticipate and proactively intervene accordingly.
