Bio
Kristen Copeland, MD, is a general pediatrician and child health researcher. Her primary research interest is the health of children in child care. Her previous research has focused on illness exclusions from the child care settings, including beliefs and perspectives from all pertinent stakeholders (child care providers, parents and physicians), and knowledge and compliance with national guidelines. More recently, Dr. Copeland has become interested in the opportunities that child care settings offer for disease prevention and health promotion, in particular for the prevention of obesity. She is currently investigating what child care center environmental factors influence children's physical activity levels.
Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Dr. Copeland graduated from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and then attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine. She completed a pediatrics residency at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, and pursued further training in public health and health services research as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. She returned to Cincinnati Children's in 2004 as a faculty member in the Division of General and Community Pediatrics.
