Bio

Joyce M. Dohme, R.N.C., M.S.N., C.P.N.P., joined Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati in 1998.

Joyce's activities include provision of outpatient care to asthmatic children in Allergy/Immunology and Pulmonary Medicine Clinics, with the goal of maintaining stability and treating exacerbations. She consults with Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center inpatient care providers regarding optimal care for hospitalized asthmatics.

Joyce believes knowledge of asthma leads to better control. This belief drives her to be involved in many educational activities directed at multidisciplinary staff, patients and families, and community groups. Her interests include patient compliance and consistency of care across the patient's many venues: home, school, primary and specialist medical offices.

Before joining Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Joyce provided primary pediatric care as a pediatric nurse practitioner in the inner city. Duties at clinic included well-child care, with a focus on parenting knowledge/anticipatory guidance, and treatment of minor illness.

Duties outside clinic walls included the establishment and staffing of School-Based Health Centers at two inner city schools. Besides offering similar services as those available at clinic, Joyce provided education to staff and consulted with teachers on medical/school issues of children with chronic health problems, such as asthma.

Joyce brings more than 20 years of nursing experience at various levels and with many populations to her current position as an advanced practice nurse. Past positions/interests include hospital staff nurse in a general medical pediatric setting and in newborn intensive care, and 15 years as maternal-infant clinical nurse specialist in high-volume, advanced care maternal/newborn services in adult hospitals.

Joyce has taught in area schools of nursing and has
served on the graduate clinical faculty at the University of Cincinnati College
of Nursing for more than 17 years.
