Bio

Gerry Fairbrother, PhD is a professor of pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati and holds a joint appointment in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Health Policy and Clinical Effectiveness at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Dr. Fairbrother's research areas include access and barriers to care, particularly for low-income children, quality performance and its measurement, and immunization delivery. She has led investigations on gaps and patterns of enrollment in child health insurance, barriers and cost to enroll in these programs, impact of Medicaid managed care on preventive screening for children, and impact of financial incentives on physician behavior. In addition, she has conducted research on delivery of childhood immunizations, including a randomized controlled trial of effects of various financial incentives on physician immunizing behavior. This study is now considered one of the first pay-for-performance investigations. Her current projects include: analysis of the effects of insurance expansions; exploring measurement issues in pay for performance; examining effects of trigger events, such as divorces or job changes, on gaps in care, analysis of issues and databases involved in measuring performance at the provider level, cost burden and effectiveness of influenza vaccine in young children.
