Bio
Alverna E. Jenkins, MSW, LISW, MEd, LPC, is both a licensed independent social worker and professional counselor. She previously worked in the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center from 1984 to 1993 where she had extensive experience with state and federal grant writing and patient education program and materials development for another chronic illness patient population.
In 1996, Ms Jenkins co-wrote a Lupus education and awareness grant with the local Arthritis Foundation which was funded by the Ohio Minority Health Commission. An outgrowth of this effort was the establishment of the first African American lupus support group in the Greater Cincinnati area which still exists today. Jenkins continues to have a keen interest in working with persons affected by the rheumatic diseases and lupus in particular.
