Biography

Elaine M. Urbina, MD, MS, is director of Preventive Cardiology. She leads a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses and dieticians in the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) and high cholesterol (dyslipidemia). Her area of expertise is non-invasive imaging of the heart and blood vessels in youth with risk factors for heart attack and stroke. She leads the vascular core for many multicenter research studies and holds leadership roles in many organizations including the International Pediatric Hypertension Association and the North American Artery Association and she is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and American Academy of Pediatrics. She has been a member of many important position papers and guidelines on treatment of cardiovascular risk factors in youth.
