Stavra A. Xanthakos, MD, joined the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in 2005, after completing her fellowship, chief residency and residency at Cincinnati Children's.

During her gastroenterology fellowship, Dr. Xanthakos investigated the prevalence and outcome of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in young adult women in conjunction with obtaining a master's degree in molecular epidemiology at the University of Cincinnati. Her research interests include the treatment and prevention of pediatric obesity, as well as identifying genetic and environmental risk factors for pediatric nonalcoholic fatty liver disease to enable better evaluation and treatment options.

In addition to her clinical and research work in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, she is also the medical director of the Comprehensive Weight Management Center at Cincinnati Children's and a member of the multidisciplinary team in HealthWorks!.
