Visiting Hours / Overnight Stays

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center staff believes family presence and participation and visits from friends are an important part of patient care. However, anyone spending time with a patient must be healthy (free from any infection). For people who cannot stay overnight with the patient, CarePages provide an easy alternative.

Visiting Guidelines

  • General visiting hours are from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm
  • Visitors should be at least 14 years old
  • Brothers, sisters and / or close relations who are 18 months of age or older may visit depending upon the patient's condition
  • Parents, guardians or a parent designee are welcome to be with their child at all times (psychiatric units have designated visiting hours)

There are special visiting guidelines for:

  • Patients in isolation
  • All intensive / critical care areas
  • Psychiatric units

During flu season, visiting may be restricted.

Please ask your nurse for more visiting details, or look in the parent information guide in each patient room.

Overnight Stays

Because family support is so important, Cincinnati Children's welcomes and encourages parents or guardians to stay with their child at all times on the general units, with some exceptions. Parents, guardians or a parent designee (18 years of age or older) may stay overnight.

Single-patient rooms include a bed or sleep chair for one person. Sleeping accommodations in other rooms vary.

Out of respect for patients, visitors and staff, we request that everyone be appropriately clothed at all times. If you are staying overnight, please do not wear sleepwear outside the patient's bedroom. Be sure to wear a robe. For your safety, please always wear shoes or slippers.

Patient Safety and Security

Patients' safety is a priority. To protect patients, visitors and staff overnight in the medical center, entrances to most buildings are locked at 8:30 pm. From 8:30 pm to 8:30 am, all visitors must wear an identification band. Staff will provide the band to those authorized to stay overnight.
