Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center has prepared responses to parents' and family members' most frequent questions about medical center policies.

How do I use the phones in the hospital?

To call a hospital number from the phone in your child's room, dial only the last five digits of the phone number; for example, 513-636-4207 becomes 6-4207.

To place a local call from your child's room, dial 9 to get an outside line. There is no charge for local calls.

To place a long-distance call, please use one of the public pay phones placed throughout the medical center.

Cell phones are not permitted in the hospital.

Where can I smoke?

To ensure a healthy environment for our patients, families and employees, Cincinnati Children's joined with other area hospitals and the Greater Cincinnati Health Council to become a tobacco-free facility, effective January 1, 2007.

The new tobacco-free policy applies to employees, patients, families, students, visitors, vendors and all persons who enter or have reason to be in or on Cincinnati Children's properties. Learn more about our policy.

Can I bring balloons to a patient?

Latex balloons are not allowed in the hospital. Children can choke or suffocate on uninflated or broken latex balloons; in addition, the latex can cause an allergic reaction in some people. You may bring Mylar balloons, such as those sold in the gift shop.

Can I bring a concealed weapon into Cincinnati Children's?

Concealed weapons are strictly prohibited on hospital property. The Cincinnati Children's Concealed Weapons Policy applies to employees, medical staff members, patients and families, vendors, volunteers, visitors and any other individuals entering any of our campuses.

Signs are posted at all main entrances stating that concealed weapons are prohibited on our property. Anyone who knowingly violates the posted prohibition or refuses to leave after being informed of the prohibition may be arrested for criminal trespass.

Can I bring my service animal into Cincinnati Children's?

When a patient, visitor, employee or medical staff member is
accompanied by a service animal, the animal will be granted access to into all areas of the hospital except those that require special precautions, such as wearing a mask, gown or gloves.
