Special Needs Kids' Summer Camps

Summer Camps for Children With Sickle Cell

Sickle Cell Camp puts smiles on children's faces.

The Sickle Cell Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, in collaboration with the Sickle Cell Awareness Group, organize the Sickle Cell Camp. The annual Sickle Cell Camp is held at Joy Outdoor Education Center in Clarksville, Ohio, for children 7 to 16 years old.

This year the camp will run from July 13 to 18, 2008.

The Sickle Cell Camp offers fellowship and the opportunity to meet others who share in the same experiences and concerns as others with sickle cell.

Camp counselors are there to help campers learn about the outdoors and enjoying the away-from-home experience. Campers also get to learn new things like horseback riding, swimming, see Karate Demonstrations and African Dance performances and other activities.

A nurse is available at the Sickle Cell Camp to take care of any medical problems that may occur and all of the camp counselors will be trained on issues related to Sickle Cell Disease.

Parents and campers attend an orientation meeting to get an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of the camp participants.
