Samantha Baker- November 2006

Samantha (age 5) and Kathy Baker (age 6) have spent a great deal of time at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center following a serious car accident in 2003.

Initially in a coma for three weeks following the accident, Samantha has recovered from many of her injuries. She is currently being seen at Cincinnati Children's Brachial Plexus Center for treatment due to a brachial plexus injury, which is damage to a group of nerves that control movement in her shoulder, arm, wrist and hand. Her arm was completely paralyzed after the accident; however, a nerve transfer surgery has given Samantha almost full use of her arm again. Cindy, Samantha's grandmother, is proud of her daughter's recovery, and calls her, "my miracle girl."

The family's strength and courage inspired the creation of the Art with a Heart program. In November 2006, the Bakers enjoyed Aladdin, Jr. performed by The Children's Theatre, followed by dinner at Kona Bistro.

After the excitement of opening their gift bags from All About Kids parenting magazine and The Children's Theatre following the performance, the girls were surprised with a backstage tour, where they met Aladdin and Jasmine. According to Samantha, her favorite part of the night was meeting Jasmine. Kathy said, "My favorite part of the play was when Aladdin and Jasmine got married." The girls both enjoyed their smoothies, spaghetti and cookies from Kona.
